ECDI opened new barracks for allied forces at the Tapa Military Base
The Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (ECDI) has officially opened new barracks for allied forces at Tapa Military Base together with the Estonian Defence Forces and Nordecon AS. The new facility enhances accommodation for allied troops and strengthens Estonia’s readiness as a Host Nation.
“As a Host Nation, it is important for Estonia to provide our allies with modern and functional facilities for service, accommodation, and training. The completion of the new barracks allows allied personnel to move from temporary accommodation to permanent facilities and further reinforces Tapa Military Base as a key hub for cooperation between Estonia and allied forces,” said Ando Voogma, portfolio manager for the North-East Region at the Estonian Centre for Defence Investments.
The new barracks are based on a standard design already in use across several Estonian Defence Forces military bases. This standardized approach enables efficient use of resources while allowing lessons learned from previous construction projects to be incorporated into the planning and development of future defence infrastructure.
The Estonian Centre for Defence Investments and Nordecon AS signed the contract for the design and construction of the new allied barracks at Tapa in the spring of 2025. The contract was valued at €5.3 million.
Infrastructure development at Tapa Military Base gained momentum in 2016 with the completion of the first standard barracks. Development will continue in the coming years, with €35 million allocated for investments at the base during the 2024–2028 period.
